Left: Dolly was found living on wasteland with her kittens. We brought them to stay in one of our outdoor pens. When her kittens were homed Dolly moved in with one of our home fosterers. She spent all her time behind the settee, underwent a total personality change and was sick every day. We had veterinary tests and x-rays done but could find no reason apart from the fact that she really could not adjust to living indoors. She went back to her original fosterer, where thankfully she stopped being sick and settled down very quickly. She now resides permanently with the original fosterer and although she has access to indoors, she likes to live life on her own terms!
Right: A few days before Christmas we had a cat handed in to us by someone who said she had been hanging about for a while and was possibly pregnant. When we checked her over it turned out that she wasn’t pregnant, she was actually an extremely emaciated old lady who had some horrible large lumps hanging down underneath her. She had one ear, was deaf, had mild kidney failure and a slight heart murmur. Fortunately the lumps were not malignant and were successfully removed. The vet said she was not ready to be written off yet! She was far too old and ill to rehome so she went to live with Eve, one of our fosterers. Sadly Mo had to be put to sleep in the end but she was able to spend her last six months living happily and safely thanks to your donations.

Maintaining
our Cat Pens
The cats in our care are looked after by fosterers in garden pens or in their own homes until a new home can be found. Even the upkeep of a completely healthy cat is high, food alone costs a minimum of £5 per week per cat, plus the additional expense of other items such as litter trays, litter, toys, bowls, bedding, disinfectant, heating and lighting, etc. Then before rehoming we make sure that every cat is neutered, vaccinated, micro-chipped, wormed, and treated for fleas; making it a very expensive process! Pictured below: Amber enjoys her stay in one of our pens.
Right: This is JJ - he came to us when he was a youngster after having started life on a farm. His owner had been keeping him and his siblings in a shed and feeding them the odd scrap of food or a dead rat when he remembered! JJ is a beautiful looking cat but understandably does not trust easily. He now lives happily along with several other CP sponsored cats in a place where he is free to roam but can enjoy human company should he so wish.

Left: Hissing Sid came into us as an un-neutered tom who had been scavenging for food around a farm for a long time. There were threats that he was going to be shot so we eventually managed to trap him and bring him into CP care. Whilst in care we had him examined and x-rayed to find that he had been run over at some point, his pelvis had been crushed and left to heal on its own, which has left him with a gammy leg. After a lot of time, love and attention Hissing Sid became Siddie as although he is still nervous and not easily handled, he is beginning to trust and has moved from totally living outside to reaping the benefits of a warm radiator!

Our Long
Term Residents
Sometimes cats that we take in cannot be rehomed for some reason. The cat may be very old, permanently disabled, have behavioural problems or need continuous and expensive medical treatment. When this happens the cat is taken in by a long term fosterer and we continue to pay for food, litter and vet bills for the rest of its life. As time goes on the number of cats under our care increase and our regular financial commitments rise. The stories of some of our long term residents are told on this page.
